Cuba 2017

Our first tour to Cuba in November/December 2016 was great.  We saw plenty of special birds and landscapes. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it and we have had positive feedback.  We were there when Fidel Castro died - a significant moment in history. We had some fascinating conversations with guides and locals and witnessed the country's reaction. Click here for a few more photographs from the trip.

Paul led our inaugural tour to Ghana in December 2016. A lovely time was had by all, and we notched up many fantastic birds. This Chocolate-backed Kingfisher was one of the highlights. Click here to see our Ghana Album.

Northern Spain's Mammals, August/September 2016

Beautiful weather, a bit of effort and a decent amount of luck combined on this year's first tour to produce some truly outstanding sightings. Everyone saw all the key mammals, and some even added Badger and close views of a family of Wild Boar on an evening walk. Bird highlights included Lammergeier, Snow Finch and Alpine Accentor, while three Wallcreepers will live in the memory for a long time. Thanks to Bob Martin for allowing us to use his lovely photographs, more of which can be found here.

Jumping for joy! Wallcreeper was the avian highlight of the trip for many.

Latvia and Lithuania in May 2016

Once again we found ourselves alone on a beach in the Baltic in May, and once again, we were treated to some of the finest bird migration in Europe.

Our Latvia tour has now become very popular and luckily, there are so few people around that it feels like we have the country to ourselves!

Migration was slower than usual because it was so nice, sunny and warm; this is a quote from an e-mail I sent to my partner:-

my worst ever birding day at Cape Kolka - seriously!

visible migration, really slow, a few thousand siskin and that's it, but otherwise we got:-

1 Bluethroat
 3 Lesser Spotted Eagle
 20 Rough- legged Buzzard
 4 Hazel Grouse
 2 Capercaillie
1 Little Crake - brief view
 3 Wryneck
 3 Red-backed Shrike
 2 Hobby
 1 Hoopoe
 2000 Long-tailed Duck
500 Common Scoter, - with the odd Velvet
 10 Black-throated Diver
2 Citrine Wagtails with grey headed and blue headed wags

cranes, storks, Barnacle Geese, whitefronts, Crossbills, both redstart species, woodlark,  black morph Adder &  Camberwell Beauty, etc, etc

Oh well, now I look at it, it wasn't that bad!

So you will love it when you come next year.

Finland in May and June 2016

Demand was so high for our Finland trip that we ended up running three tours to Oulu and Kuusamo in late May and early June. The trips were like chalk and cheese, with late May being very hot and sunny but winter returned in early June! Nevertheless, all three groups saw all five key owls, thanks to the help of our amazing Finnature guides. Red-flanked Bluetails, Capercaillies, Three-toed Woodpeckers, Siberian Tits, Willow Grouse, Siberian Jays, Rustic Buntings, Waxwings and Hazel Grouse were also seen by all participants. Pine Grosbeak, Broad-billed Sandpiper, Black Woodpecker, Blyth's Reed Warbler and Corncrake were reserved for the lucky groups. This Pygmy Owl was one of the highlights. SW Turkey in May 2016

Just returned from our regular 10 day trip to SW Turkey. Lots of great birds including point blank views of hunting Eleonora's Falcons, smashing White-throated Robins, Finsch's Wheatears, Caucasian Horned Larks and of course the mind blowing Turkish Brown Fish Owl.

Here's a photograph of the globally rare western form of Cinereous Bunting. Click here to see more photographs and video from this trip.

Belize March 2016

This March our Belize trip was oversubscribed, so we ran two trips, back to back. The first has recently finished. Click here for a few photographs, kindly given to us by Sue Bailey.

This Purple-crowned Fairy visited the garden at Chich Chich briefly one lunch time, just long enough for Sue to capture it in all its glory.

In February 2016 Andrew took a group to Trinidad and Tobago. Paul Kingsnorth took some fantastic photos. To see more of Paul's pictures click here.
