Tarifa September 2014

 

Paul and Phil have just returned from a week watching migrants in the Straits of Gibraltar. They had a lovely group and some great weather, and were rewarded by many superb sightings. Two Lanner Falcons, two Spanish Imperials Eagles, Royal Tern, Bluethroat, Penduline Tit, Black Wheatear, Little Swift, Red-necked Nightjar, Audouin's Gull, White-headed Duck, Bonelli's Eagle, Black-shouldered Kite and a melanistic Montagu's Harrier were amongst the hightlights, as well as some superb raptor passage. This dark-morph Booted Eagle showed at close range, having just made a decision not to cross the straits this time. Click here for more photographs from this trip.

Spanish Mammals September 2014

This September we took our first two groups on our Northern Spain Mammals trip. Everyone saw the target species of Cantabrian Brown Bear, Iberian Wolf and Wildcat, plus a host of other goodies such as Wallcreeper and Alpine Accentor. LATVIA  2014

Duelling Three-toed Woodpeckers taken on our 2014 trip.

Already a favourite European destination for our clients, almost nobody else goes there .....yet!

This Baltic State provides some of the most exciting birding on offer. Masses of spring migrants, always with a surprise thrown in, as well as breeding woodpeckers, cranes and owls.

BHUTAN 2014

Our 2014 Bhutan tour was a great success with super views of pheasants, Tragopans and Ibisbills. Photos from this tour features on our 2014 brochure cover.

 

Our run of good luck meant that we saw the White-bellied Heron. We have never failed with this species, which is probably the World's rarest

MADEIRA June 2014

In June this year we ran our fourth trip to Madeira, staying one night on Deserta Grande again. We had superb weather and enjoyed some memorable boat trips. We saw Desertas Petrel, Madeiran Storm-petrel, Bulwer's Petrel, Borolo Shearwater, Bryde's Whale, Loggerhead Turtle, Mediterranean Monk Seal, Hammerhead Shark and much more. TURKEY May 2014

This Brown Fish-owl provided a stunning climax to our southern Turkey trip in May. We saw almost everything we looked for, including Olive-tree Warbler, Red-fronted Serin, Spur-winged Plover, Smyrna Kingfisher, White-throated Robin, Cinereous Bunting, Snow Finch, Caucasian Shore Lark, Masked Shrike, Finsch's Wheatear, Eastern Orphean Warbler, Red-throated Pipit, Eleonora's Falcon and much more. The most accessible oilbird cave in the world is in the grounds of the Asa Wright Nature Centre where we we stay on Trinidad.

BURMA (MYANMAR) January 2014

Our second tour to Burma allowed us to see all of the endemics and some ancient temples.

We were able to assist the ex-hunters and survey teams to find Spoon-billed Sandpipers, while contributing to BANCA (Birdlife Burma) and the WWT's head-starting scheme.

NE ECUADOR January 2014

We have just returned from two bird-filled weeks in NE Ecuador, visiting Antisana, San Isidro, Wild Sumaco and the unsurpassed Napo Wildlife Center. Highlights included Zigzag Heron seen on its nest, 40 species of hummingbird, Black-necked Red Cotinga and Amazonian Umbrellabird. This beautiful male Booted Racket-tail provided a rare photographic opportunity. They rarely perch for long enough to get a picture. Click here for more photographs from this trip.
