Photo Page 2008

This page showcases photographs taken on our tours or during a trip at the planning stage.

All pictures have been taken by our leaders or customers. We have not bought pictures from libraries to make our tours look more impressive. With Bird Holidays, what you see is what you get.

If you have been on one of our tours and wish to show others your best shots, please send them to  info@birdholidays.co.uk

ARGENTINA 2008

The pictures below were just a few of our client's favourites on this mega-tour.

The landscapes were taken by Brenda and James Woolfenden, while the birds were by Paul Kingsnorth.

This fine male Torrent duck was one of several we found in the fast-flowing rivers near Tafi del Valle.

The high altitude Andean salt lakes provide a breeding ground for three species of flamingo, while condors fly overhead.

One of the world's most-wanted birds, this Diademed Sandpiper-plover was feeding with its mate and a well grown youngster at 4600m above sea level.

The ruins at Quilmes are a great place to see Burrowing Parrots and Cliff Flycatchers.

The Chimango Caracara cleans up a road kill hare.

The 'valley of the shells' has some dramatic sandstone cliffs.

The Chaco Chachalaca can more often be heard than seen as they call from the canopy.

The falls at Iguaz˙ is the world's most dramatic waterfall and is presently in the running to top the list of the new seven greatest wonders of the world.

The high altitude El Mollar Reservoir holds three species of coot as well as hundreds of wildfowl and waders.

Talampaya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

ESTONIA 2008

This Corncrake was one of many heard on our most recent tour. We also scored well with this species in Poland this spring.

John Tidmarsh took this superb picture of a Grass Snake at Nigula this spring.

The weather had been great all week, allowing us to enjoy lots of Camberwell Beauty butterflies and daily sightings of Grass Snakes. Phil spotted this beast swimming across a peat bog and swiftly ran to the bank where the animal was heading. There it froze, looking up at him flickering its tongue. The group arrived to enjoy face-to-face views as the animal looked up at us. After a while it sank back into the deep peat-stained water, to turn and dive down. It then surfaced a few yards away and made its way to the shore where it melted into the grass.

This Moose (European Elk), was one of many that we found this year feeding in the reedbeds. The Elk is common in Estonia, but not always easy to see well.
